Gesher Trek to Peru, Machu Picchu

4th – 14th October 2018

Peru is frequently referred to as the ‘Land of the Incas’ and has some of the most spectacular and varied scenery in South America.  Our route is along an exclusive ‘alternative Inca Trail’, away from the crowded classic Inca Trail. We use a previously unknown Inca Highway, which takes us through some of the most stunning, breathtaking and unspoilt scenery in the world. Our trek starts in the heart of the Urubamba Valley as we follow in the footsteps of the Incas, passing snow capped mountains, glacial peaks and camp overnight in the valleys of small villages, which have changed little over centuries and still use traditional farming methods.

We end the trek passing through the ‘Sun Gate’ and into the lost city of Machu Picchu; Peru’s most famous Inca ruin, which had been abandoned to the forest for over 500 years until it was re-discovered in 1911 by an American historian Hiram Bingham.

What is not Included:

  • Airport taxes and fuel surcharges
  • Lunch on day 3 and 9, dinner on day 9
  • Gratuities
  • Personal expenses
  • Personal travel insurance

*Please note trips costs are based on 10+ participants.

The trek will raise much needed funds for the school enabling us to buy specialist equipment for the children and to expand so that we can continue to accept more children. Rates of autism amont children in the UK are at an all time high yet the specialist provision they require to access an education is woefully inadequate and unable to meet demand. Gesher plans to grow over the next few years so that we can give a group of vulnerable children the best start in life. Gesher has the ability to totally transform the trajectory of a childs life by providing them with the therapeutic early intervention and life skills that they need.

If you would like to go out to Peru earlier than the set departure dates please do contact Ultimate Challenges directly to arrange this.

Further information on the trek such as kit lists, what to expect on the trek and training advice will be sent once you have signed up for the challenge.  Please click here to register or find out more.

Autism and Anxiety in the classroom

13th Dec 2017 4.30pm – 5.30pm

Autistic children and young people can experience a high base level of anxiety every day. There are some common themes when talking about the causes of anxiety. However, everyone is different and the best thing is to get to know the child or young person you are working with.

Join us to hear from Gesher headteacher Gianna Colizza, to discuss the main causes and how to recognise anxiety in children and how you can help to relieve or prevent anxiety.  Pre-registration is required in order to confirm your place.  Please reserve your place here.

This talk is suitable for teachers, sencos and teaching assistants
