Who Do I Want To Be?

What a lovely few weeks we have had back at school. Being in for full weeks has really helped us settle into the term and find our groove. Our topic this term is ‘Who do I want to be?’ and we have begun looking at people who help us in the community and how they help us. We have also started researching people who inspire us including Albert Einstein and Harry Beck, the inventor of the tube map! In Literacy, we have been looking at Aesop’s fables, focusing on stories with a moral. We have retold through drama the Hare and the Tortoise, and identified it and the Boy Who Cried Wolf’s moral. We are trying to take these lessons seriously in the classroom, thinking about slowing down and always telling the truth.
In Maths, we have been exploring addition through a number of different methods including number lines, whole part models, special addition boxes and ten frames. We have also been working hard on our number bonds to 10, and their relationship to 20. Keep it up Gefen!
Gefen class have been exploring many different cultures and important historical events. We have also been busy learning about Diwali, where we created some beautiful firework paintings, which can now be seen in the hallway. In story time, assembly and Topic, we explored Black History Month, identifying what makes us unique and sharing famous black Jewish and non-Jewish people, discussing their significance and how they are positive role models for us with fighting for equality. As well as this, we explored Remembrance Day, sharing the meaning behind the poppy and making our very own wreaths to pay our respects to people who fight for their country.
In Jewish studies, we have been learning about the Bereshit, Noah’s Ark as well as this week exploring the Parasha, Abraham and Sarah. Gefen were also busy learning about the special blessings and songs sung during Shabbat as well as discussing some laws surrounding Shabbat. We all enjoyed asking questions about what we can and cannot do for Shabbat.
In PE, we have begun exploring dance. This week, we used streamers and videos from Firework Night and Diwali to inspire us to dance like fireworks. We enjoyed making long, round and explosive shapes with our bodies and the streamers. Great job Gefen!
Next week, we are looking forward to our trip to the Jewish Museum and celebrating Mitzvah Day on Friday. Finally, it is Anti-bullying week so we will be discussing what it means to be a good friend and identifying and solving bullying behaviours.
